Project #5 Optical Illusion
Keep your mouse pressing and moving
Description

These three sketches I drew in Illustrator have different and meaningful to me. The first one is the pattern of blue and white porcelain, which is one of the most popular china in my country. This type of pattern was created tracing back to the Yuan dynasty (1271 - 1368). I have been fallen in love with this pattern when I first saw it in primary school. The second one is a type of paper cutting activity, which is usually doing during the Chinese spring festival. The third one is gold inlaid with jade, which was created for the gold medal of the Olympic game 2008 hold in Beijing.
I finally decided to make this animation by combining the pattern of blue and white porcelain and gold inlaid with jade, because of the deep meaning to me. I tried to simplify the flower pattern to geometric shapes and changed the order of them so that it can transform to be an optical illusion image. And I also increased the number of the pattern and added the random function to enhance the visual effects.
Reflections
The way of how to stimulate the hand-painted blue color deviation is that I used the "random" function to set the scope of the color. I kept the square shape in the original drawing and changed the inside of the pattern to the helical rectangular. The transformation from the ancient pattern to modern digital pattern is a process from concrete to abstract. I also added the anaglyph illusion by embedded the inscribe.
I made the second creation of traditional blue and white porcelain patterns and modern geometric figures. I simplified the complex patterns into more ordered nested squares, retained the blue with deviation, and converted this color difference into animation. In addition, I set the signature on the porcelain of the Yuan Dynasty in mousePressed, and "hide" the traces of traditional culture into the interaction of modern technology. In my opinion, it is a great combination to use the traditional pattern code to present a brand new presentation.
During this assignment, After I decided the final pattern of this assignment, I wrote down the logic and calculation orders on the paper instead of coding in the computer immediately. I felt very excited because I had got a great improvement on my logical calculus.
